Episode #167: A heartfelt request to my listeners

Listen, Download, & Subscribe on iTunes, Spotify, Stitcher, & Google Play

Hey friends, It’s been a whirlwind between launching my new book and taking care of 👶👶👶 babies four and under. It’s not always easy being a mama. I feel like I haven’t been doing enough for my launch. I’m comparing my past self to my current self and all I can do is raise the white flag.

Sometimes we just have to DRAW THE LINE and ask for help from others. It may mean asking our teams for additional help or advice from a stranger on the internet. And this is exactly what I did this week. Tune into this week’s episode, to hear more about what we’re going through in this season and how I’m asking for health advice from YOU 🙏

Even though something doesn’t go as planned, the journey in itself still holds beauty. This week, I’m talking about the concept of beauty AND pain coexisting.

Life is all what we make of it. If you talk to anyone who has experienced pain and they’ve had some time away from it; I’m sure they will find some little nugget of beauty from the experience. As someone who has dealt with a LOT of pain throughout my life and also witnessed others suffering as a therapist, I have not once had someone report otherwise.

If we can approach life from a place of belief that beauty DOES coexist with pain, I can assure you life will feel a thousand times easier.

Join me in this week's episode of the THINKING LIKE A BOSS PODCAST to hear more of my thoughts around this, including my most recent, finding the beauty in the pain of a 3x failed breastfeeding experience.

Let's Stop the War Stories "Birth is Beautiful" (Unpopular Opinions, Part 6)

Listen, Download, & Subscribe on iTunes, Spotify, Stitcher, & Google Play

So last week my unpopular opinion episode “Birth is Beautiful” apparently ruffled some feathers. And because of that I’m not releasing a new episode this week, but encouraging you ALL to go over and listen with an open mind.

I received messages from both sides as I normally do with an either “thank you for standing up, I’ve felt attacked anytime I’ve tried to say I had a pleasant birth experience” OR “you're silencing my trauma! My birth plan wasn’t exactly as I had hoped and therefore I now have trauma and it’s people like you who trigger me”.

All I can say is, I know this is a BOLD statement digging myself even deeper, but I can typically call those women who come running to me with anger. They do the same with anything that I write. So it makes me wonder🤷🏻‍♀️Again, yes, birth trauma CAN happen, but it’s not common. And I would rather if you experienced it to share what you learned (which I do in the episode) rather than do it to drive fear in others.

This episode was supposed to be encouraging to first time mamas to shine a light on the beauty of birth and to encourage the women (so many have messaged me!!!!) who had positive experiences to not be silenced by the angry mob who are angry at everything.

Ok I said it🤣If birth was so bad we wouldn’t still be doing it today lol it’s not meant to feel good right? (although the other extreme will say it is, which that’s cool!), but that little human that you meet on the other side of the pain will ALWAYS be worth it🙏🏼

It is also a privilege to GET to give birth!!! There are thousands of women begging God right now to bring them a sweet child. So I will fight for this one and not be silenced……BIRTH IS BEAUTIFUL✨✨✨

No go and tune in to have a listen for yourself and share with a mama who needs some encouragement!!!

My entire life up until having our first, I feared birth. The collective was that birth is the most horrific experience, but it’s worth it so just consider it 🤪 The more babies I had, the more I stopped fearing it and learned to embrace it and the more pleasant it became.

This episode of unpopular opinions I’m getting VERY personal with you guys. I’m tired of the war stories.  And after birthing three babies now, I want to share my opinion of why I believe people continue this war story narrative.

I also share the number one piece of advice I received six years ago from a doula that I never forgot, which actually saved me from going through with a scheduled induction to having my most favorite, spontaneous birth yet🤪which ended up being unmedicated.

When I was sixteen my high school guidance counselor called me a fool. He said if I continued to socialize rather than care about college, I’d have to go to community college.

First, what’s wrong with community college? And second, this proves my point on why homeschooling is MORE social for kids, they aren’t given demerits for using a potential gift (of gab like me!) that they have.

This week on the podcast I’m sharing:

  • How this experience fueled me to eventually graduate from an Ivy League school

  • Why I semi regret going to Columbia U

  • Why my parents were right in not forcing education on me

  • And why we should encourage our next generation to reconsider a higher education

Episode #161: Modern Feminism (Unpopular Opinions, Part 3)

Listen, Download, & Subscribe on iTunes, Spotify, Stitcher, & Google Play

I don’t know about you, but I’ve grown tired of the narrative we’ve taken on as women over the years. The narrative that…

  • we should be doing more.

  • if we aren’t at a certain place we must not be trying hard enough.

  • just being a mom to stay home with the kids must mean we aren’t motivated.

And you know the list goes on.

As a new entrepreneur I fell for the promise of modern feminism and didn’t notice the toxicity of it until after I had my first baby. I  realized that if I were to continue striving and chasing the hustle of “upleveling my business” while also being a new mama, I would slowly crack from the pressure. Join me in episode 161 of the Thinking Like a Boss Podcast where I discuss modern feminism, how I’ve made the conscious effort to ditch it, and how I quite honestly would rather be a 1950’s housewife (😂)!

You are doing more than enough.

Episode #160: Distancing & Mental Health (Unpopular Opinions, Part 2)

Listen, Download, & Subscribe on iTunes, Spotify, Stitcher, & Google Play

I’ve been speaking up a lot more lately about everything that’s happening in our world, and unpopular opinions close to my heart. I’ve joined groups, had incredible conversations in the DMs, and connected more with like-minded people.

We as a society are deeply craving community, the bible says we were not meant to do life alone. Yet so many are experiencing fear and distancing themselves from loved ones. If we are holding back and living in fear, we aren’t going to be the best we can be. Rather than remaining paralyzed and feeling powerless, we can choose to speak up and live life to the fullest. Maybe your current situation isn’t ideal, BUT today you can start by taking time to explore, spend as much time together with family, and really create a life you wouldn’t have been able to before.

Live life to the fullest.
— Kate Crocco

What You’ll Learn in This Episode:

  • Distancing is doing more harm than good.

  • Ways to take care of your mental health.

Episode #159: Fear vs Preparation (Unpopular Opinions, Part 1)

Listen, Download, & Subscribe on iTunes, Spotify, Stitcher, & Google Play

Let’s play a game for the next few weeks… I’ll share some personal opinions that I see as unpopular in the media narrative and you tell me what you think! I am going to warn you that each day I am learning to be more brave and courageous to share what’s on my heart {unfiltered}, but still to this day I struggle and worry about what you might think of me.

One day when I was feeling brave I recorded the first few episodes but then had several life instances happen that made me second guess releasing them. I immediately messaged my team asking to delete them, but the message never went through (🤦🏻‍♀️!). I took this as a sign that even though my voice might sound shaky or I might pause or I might not spit things out as eloquently as I typically do because of feeling afraid, I’m still sharing these with you because I know someone is meant to hear them.

Most things you worry about never happen.
— Kate Crocco

What You’ll Learn in This Episode:

  • Unpopular opinions are not absolutes.

  • Most things you worry about never happen.

  • Life circumstances cause us to change, and change is good.

Episode #158: Being a “No” Girl (Momming Like a Boss Part 4)

Listen, Download, & Subscribe on iTunes, Spotify, Stitcher, & Google Play

No. 🚫

I get it. It’s so hard to say. As soon as we say it we feel a wave of guilt and FOMO wash over us. Even still, it’s important to say no sometimes.

Because for me, when I say yes to something else, I say no to my family. I say no to my adorable 3 year old and 20 month old. Or I say no to my husband. Or I say no to alone time. Or I say no to pursuing what’s aligned for me.

Saying no may not always mean no, it might just mean not right now. What’s for you, will always be for you.

  • You have to release the guilt.

  • You have to release the FOMO.

  • You have to get quiet enough to focus on what’s aligned for you.

If an opportunity is for you and you say no today, if it’s still for you five years from now, it will be there. Nothing can take that away from you.

I challenge you to practice saying no in the little things this week. It can be as simple as saying, “No, I don’t want Chinese food for dinner. What about tacos??” 🌮

What’s for you, will always be for you.
— Kate Crocco

What You’ll Learn in This Episode:

  • Why you need to say no

  • How to say no

  • The importance of setting boundaries

  • How to release FOMO

  • 3 tips you need to remember as you become a “no” girl

Episode #157: Simplify Your Business (Momming Like A Boss Part 3)

Listen, Download, & Subscribe on iTunes, Spotify, Stitcher, & Google Play

I’ve heard so many people say, “If only I was at my 9-5 still, life would be so much more simple.” 😳

So many of us started a business and left a 9-5 because we felt stifled. We felt like we didn’t have freedom with our schedules. We wanted time to travel, spend time with family, etc. The ironic thing is, so many people leave their 9-5 to find this freedom, and actually end up feeling even more trapped than they were before.

Here’s the 🔑: it’s important that we make sure our businesses are not running us, but we are in charge 💪🏻 We are the CEO of our business. We are taking the lead and we are creating a life that we love, that our business can be a part of. Not a business we love that our life can be a part of, but a business that we love that feels fulfilling.

In order to do that, we have to simplify.

Evaluate this week who is running your business. Is it you? If not, how can you take back control? If you want to show up as the best mom you can be, and the best entrepreneur you can be, you have to learn to ask for help. So how can YOU ask for help this week?

In order for you to do more of what lights you up, you need to do less of something else. We can’t just add more.
— Kate Crocco

What You’ll Learn in This Episode:

  • How to be super intentional with your time, and why it’s so valuable

  • 6 questions you can ask yourself to help simplify your business

  • A sneak peek into what Kate’s next book, her workbook, will focus on

Episode #156: Accepting Help (Momming Like A Boss Part 2)

Listen, Download, & Subscribe on iTunes, Spotify, Stitcher, & Google Play

“I should be strong enough to do it on my own.”

I told myself that lie for a very long time. It felt so selfish to ask for help. I decided it was easier to try doing it on my own than to live with the guilt of burdening others. That insistence on doing things myself almost resulted in the death of my business, though.

The lie of having to do it all is powerful. We often resist asking for help, believing it to be a sign of weakness, when in truth, it’s simply a way to step into freedom and become stronger in every area of life.

Three years ago, after having a breakdown on the way home from a Fourth of July family BBQ, I asked for help. I hired people on my team. I asked family members for help with my kids. I hired a coach. I went to a therapist. Everything in my business and my life changed. I dropped the guilt, stepped into freedom, and became stronger 💪🏻

If you want to show up as the best mom you can be, and the best entrepreneur you can be, you have to learn to ask for help. So how can YOU ask for help this week?

Strong people ask for help.
— Kate Crocco

What You’ll Learn in This Episode:

  • Three areas of accepting help that will allow you to show up as the best mom and entrepreneur you can be.

  • How to overcome the lie that you have to do it all.

  • Three tangible ways to step into freedom.

Episode #155: Putting Your Dreams on Hold (Momming Like A Boss Part 1)

Listen, Download, & Subscribe on iTunes, Spotify, Stitcher, & Google Play

One of the top questions I get asked is, “How do you juggle it all?” and “Can I really do it, too?” The answer is: YES, but you have to put some dreams on hold.

This week on The Thinking Like a Boss Podcast, I have a new series kicking off entitled  “Momming Like a Boss” where I share what it’s like being a mom while running a business, some of the struggles I’ve experienced, and what I’ve figured out along the way (and am still learning 😂).

In part one, I talk about putting your dreams on hold and the beauty that is birthed out of it. Yes, there is beauty in putting your dreams on hold!

You can’t do it all right now. You can have a business and you can be a mom, but your expectations have to shift.

Ask yourself this week: how can I stop trying to do it all, and how can I shift my expectations so I can move forward and live a more abundant life?

You can’t do it all if you want to do it well.
— Kate Crocco

What You’ll Learn in This Episode:

  • Kate’s transition from being an entrepreneur to being a mom

  • Why you need to release your scarcity mindset

  • How your expectations have to shift as a mom

  • What happens when you try to do it all

  • 3 shifts that will help you move forward and start living a more abundant life

As business owners, it’s important that we show our followers and clients what we believe in.

Throughout the last couple of years, we’ve experienced a number of significant social issues arise that we many of us feel passionate about in some way. On this week's episode of Thinking Like a Boss Podcast, we discuss compassion fatigue and how important it is for us to learn our boundaries so that we can be the best champion for these causes. We have big hearts, but we also have loved ones and/or little ones we are called to raise, and it’s important we do not neglect what is right in front of us when we are chasing something bigger. It is also important we do not neglect our own mental health. When we feel pulled to champion all, compassion fatigue can kick in causing us to burnout and in turn, champion none.

Tune in now to hear about how you can combat compassion fatigue when you are feeling the pressure to do more.

If you are trying to champion all, you’ll end up championing none.
— Kate Crocco

What You’ll Learn in This Episode:

  • Trust that others are just as fired up as you.

  • 1 to 2 causes that I can put my time and energy into - causes that are near to me and spread awareness - today.

  • Be okay with waving the white flag, signing offline, and focussing on your own mental health

I often hear people say, “it's easier to stay quiet.” 😬

So many of us admire those we follow for being bold and sharing how they really feel about life and business online, yet we hold back. We often place focus on what others will think of us that we start to feel less like ourselves. As we grow and evolve and our beliefs change. We want what is best for our people.

Here is the truth about life, people are not always going to agree with you. The part of you that some will despise, others are going to love. You have to learn to embrace disagreement and look at it as a healthy part of relationships.

Tune into this week’s episode of Thinking Like a Boss Podcast as I share a few tips to help you get more comfortable with disagreement as your true self begins to shine.

What You’ll Learn in This Episode:

  • Disagreement is good.

  • Acknowledging that you have blind spots.

  • It’s natural to grow and evolve.
