Happy Tuesday Confident Lady!
A few weeks back in a FB Live I introduced you guys to my “take it or leave it” mindset/business motto. This is something I always have believed in, but 100% adopted December 2016. Since owning my coaching business, I have always strived to be unapologetic in my work--showing up exactly as I am. Here is why:
It feels good. I just get to be exactly who I am and not feel like I need to impress.
It’s aligned. It would feel icky to be anyone but me.
It’s EASY. I don’t have to play two roles, real-life-Kate and business-Kate. I get to just be Kate!
People are ultimately drawn to REAL. There’s a reason why television is mostly reality-tv these days! Duhhhh
Now for some of you this feels REALLY hard. For multiple reasons you just aren't sure about the whole “showing up exactly as me” thing. You still wonder…..
// Will people think I’m unprofessional?
// Will they think I’m a slob if I’m not made up?
// Will they judge me for who I REALLY am?
// Will they not like me because of my beliefs and values?
Here’s the thing. People WILL think these things about you.
“What?! Kate! Are you really validating my biggest fear?!”
Yes, my dear I am! No matter what you do in life, there will NEVER be a time that people 100% agree with you and this is OK! There would be something wrong with you if EVERYONE agreed with everything you did and said. I would truly be concerned--what it would show is that you are working to please ALL. And what happens when you try to please all? You actually end up pleasing nobody at all! Because everything you do is grey, wishy-washy--nothing is black or white. Please don’t live your life this way!
So now I bet you’re dying to hear how you can get into a mindset of take it or leave it! And I am going to share a few pointers with you:
Ask yourself: What is the worst thing that could happen if you just showed up as you, 100% unapologetic, with a take it or leave it mindset? I guess the answer would be some people wouldn’t like you right? And like I mentioned earlier, that is a SIGN you are doing something RIGHT! So ultimately, there really is NO worst thing that could happen.
You never want to CONVINCE people to hire you or buy your products. When you do this, people feel dis-empowered. They can grow to feel resentful. They are typically less satisfied with whatever it is you sold them. I’ve been there before and this is why I don’t try to convince potential clients. If they really want to hire you, they WILL.
Ditch the scripts and formal sales conversations. Just show up and listen. Answer questions. Feel excited to share with them how awesome your products or services are. This is YOUR business. You aren’t interviewing for a 9-5. Quit staying in that mentality. You no longer have to write the resume, send the cover letter, ace the interview, wow the team, you JUST NEED TO SHARE WITH THEM how you can help them accomplish what they are desiring to accomplish!! Keep it SIMPLE.
Now keep this in mind: If you enter in with the take it or leave it mindset, the right people will show up and the wrong people will walk away.
If this person isn’t the right one, don’t worry, the next one might be. You saying no to a potential client who isn’t ideal or a potential saying no to you is only opening up space for the RIGHT client to find you.
Which tip hit home the most today? Have you been approaching your business with a take it or leave it mindset OR have you been holding on tightly and trying way too hard to impress?
